Assessment
The Temperomandibular joint (or jaw joint) can be a site of local joint pain or it can be a source of headaches, facial pain and other head and neck symptoms. It is a complex problem, and a comprehensive assessment is vital in making an accurate diagnosis and henceforth formulating an appropriate treatment plan.
At Kooyong Physiotherapy Centre we understand musculoskeletal disorders affecting muscle, bone and joints and we are trained in treating the condition and thus the associated pain.

Treatment
Your treatment will involve -
- Hands on soft tissue treatment or joint mobilisation
- Strength and motor patterning exercises
- Postural re-education and awareness exercises
- Education on food selection during acute phase
Alongside improving physical function, we take pride in maintaining a space where you learn how to maintain an active lifestyle free from this injury. We concentrate not only on treating the symptoms but on providing a long-term solution to fix the causes of those symptoms.

Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation involves postural and functional modifications. We often work adjunctively with the patient's Dental Specialist, to achieve optimal outcomes. At Kooyong Physiotherapy Centre we have a great depth of experience in the treatment of this common clinical problem. In fact Robin Halse and two other experienced Jaw Physiotherapists were invited to present a paper at the 2013 Australian Dental Association Conference titled 'Is It A Headache or A Pain In The Neck... The Physiotherapy Role in Team Management.'
Robin's involvement with this specialty extends to regular meetings with a Special Interest Group, including specialists in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Radiology and TMJ Physiotherapy.
